Frequently Asked Questions
What is a co-op?
A group of homeschooling families committed to offering the best educational opportunities they can for their children through a joint effort. The word co-op involved both COmmunity and coOPeration.
I thought co-op's were free, so why are you charging for classes?
There are some pretty big expenses in running a co-op at this level. Rent, heat, teacher's curriculum and equipment are just a few of the costs. We must cover the cost of the tuition reduction for teacher's children, and some minimal salaries. We do our best to keep our prices low, respecting our families budgets. The difference with our group is that we run as a non-profit business, meaning we reinvest any profits back into the co-op at the end of each year. We maintain a board that makes spending decisions as a group, always with the best interests of the co-op in mind.
If I sign my child up for these classes, does that mean I don't have to teach them at home?
The parent is first and foremost the child's teacher. While our classes is designed to provide the student with specialized instruction, it does not absolve the parent from their responsibility for their child's education. A parent still must ensure that the student is keeping up with assigned work throughout the year, and is still responsible for creating and maintaining a portfolio according to state law. If a child is struggling, our teachers are available to assist in any way.
