Volunteer Opportunities Still Open
CO-OP stands for COmmunity CoOPeration
Because Fireside is a CO-OP, it requires both COmmunity and coOPeration to succeed. While we DON'T have a set formula where every family has to do a set number of hours, we DO expect that every family will volunteer in some capacity. Obviously families taking full days of classes should do more than those taking just one or two; consequently, we've set up our volunteer element to work with each family and where they are. Many have already volunteered for various jobs throughout the year; we are now looking to fill a few holes between now and September 9.
Below is a list of some jobs still available, or those that could use another family or two to help. There is also a description of what the job entails; some are weekly, and some are for a special event that involves just a few weeks of work. Please look through the list and contact Angela about where you might fit in. Thank you!
SET-UP: Still need a few more families; would involve 1-2 times a month. This job would involve coming in at 8:00 to set up for the day. Set up at our location is actually NOT a complicated job. The community room will need to have tables and chairs set up, and two other rooms need a table and chairs brought in from a hallway – no major stairs! Aside from that, set up will involve delivering a couple of white boards, and pencil boxes to each room. Set up shouldn't take more than 45 minutes, and with a couple of families on each week, the requirement should only be 1-2 times each month.
COOKING CLASS MONITORS: Both of our
cooking classes could use another set of adult hands; the monitor would
help to get the class set up and materials out, and then be there to
assist the instructor as needed. The earlier class really needs a
committed person for this as the instructor will be
arriving just as class begins. This is a WEEKLY job; time frames are
either 11-12 or 1-2.
GYM CLASS MONITOR: Our gym class for grades 3-5 could use another set of hands; this is a WEEKLY job; time frame is 2:00-3:00.
ROAMING HALL MONITORS: Because Fireside is situated on multiple floors, we would like to have a monitor who can “roam” up and down the stairs a few times each hour. This person is just there to ensure that our kids are not “roaming” themselves, and also someone that an upstairs instructor can grab in the case of need (eg; a student needing to go to the nurse). This is a great job for a mom who may want to stay while their child(ren) is in class, but doesn't want any real responsibility. This is a WEEKLY job; time frames available are 11-12, 1-2, and 2-3.
SNACK TABLE INVENTORY: This is a person who will work together with our snack table shopper; the job would involved having to be there LAST PERIOD (or someone picking their child up at 3:00). There will be an inventory sheet for the snack table; this person would check off how many things are left of each at the end of the day. THEY WOULD THEN GO HOME AND EMAIL THIS LIST TO THE SNACK TABLE SHOPPER, who will bring the replenished items the following week. Although this is a weekly job, it shouldn't take more than ½ hour to an hour a week
PIZZA DAY COORDINATOR(S): This person(s) would take the signup sheets home the week before pizza day and do up the pizza tickets, and bring them back the following week to be filed in family mail boxes. They would also either be there to serve the pizza on pizza day; this is a great job for a team – either homeschool parents that can both be there, or two moms that would like to do something together. There is no money handling involved. This is a MONTHLY job (about 7 times).
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS: We would like to
have a list of teachers that we can call if we need them; if this is job
that might interest you, please indicate grade levels and subject matter
and times available that you would be willing to substitute for. Most
teachers will have a file set up with
“emergency” lessons prepared to help you. This is an OCCASSIONAL job.
DECEMBER COOKIE SWAP COORDINATOR/HOSTESS:
Here is a great job for a mom who may have other children at
home, or other responsibilities! For our December parent event, we would
like to have a cookie swap early in the month; ideally, this event would
be “cozier” taking place in a
home rather than a rented place. Job would entail choosing a date,
sending a flier to our newsletter for publicity, and hostessing (or
finding a hostess) the event. This would be a ONE TIME event.
EDUCATIONAL FAIR COMITTEE: Our
educational fair is scheduled for Friday, February 27 in the late
afternoon/early evening. We are looking for a team to coordinate this
event – job entails publicity, scheduling, arranging for judges, and
getting prizes/awards ready. Many of our teachers have
been judges in the past, so that part of the job is not that difficult.
A lot of this job can be done at home, in addition to the actual fair
date. This is a ONE TIME event, with about a month of prep work.
GRADUATION COORDINATOR(S): We are
looking for 1-2 people to help coordinate our graduation celebration in
May. We have the date set tentatively for Sunday, May 17, although that
is still up for discussion. The job would entail publicity, arranging
for refreshments (we are not doing a
meal, just desserts and/or finger foods) to be brought, and putting
together a program. The senior slideshow (as well as a general slideshow
of Fireside through the year) will be done by administration and the
yearbook/newsletter staff. This is ONE TIME event, with about a month of
prep work.
FIELD TRIP COORDINATORS: We are ALWAYS looking for people to run field trips! While we are now advertising field trips that other groups also run (as well as joining them for a few special events throughout the year), we are still always looking for people to take charge of a great deal that they see. Job would entail contacting Laurel and the newsletter for publicity (keep in mind that the newsletter has deadlines), collecting money for the field trip you are in charge of, being the contact person with the facility you are visiting, and being there that day to coordinate the event. This is a ONE TIME event for each event you do, with prep work varying depending on the event.
